- He succeeded Dilbag Singh, who retired from the post after serving as the DGP for over two years.
- Rajeshwari Rajagopalan Swain, commonly known as R.R. Swain, is a 1991-batch IPS officer of the Jammu and Kashmir cadre.
- Prior to his appointment as the DGP, Swain was posted as Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Security at the Jammu and Kashmir Police headquarters.
- Throughout his career, Swain has held various important positions in the Jammu and Kashmir Police department.
- He has served as the Inspector General of Police (IGP) in Jammu, Executive Staff Officer to DGP, Superintendent of Police in Udhampur district, and Senior Superintendent of Police in Jammu city.
- Swain hails from the Odisha cadre and is the first non-Kashmiri officer to hold the prestigious position of DGP in Jammu and Kashmir.
- As the DGP, Swain will be responsible for the overall maintenance of law and order and the security apparatus in Jammu and Kashmir.
