  • The Centre has issued guidelines to State governments to ensure that the queer community in prisons receives equal rights and protection.
  • These guidelines include provisions for non-discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity within prison facilities.
  • States have been directed to provide appropriate healthcare services catering to the specific needs of LGBTQ+ individuals in prisons.
  • Training programs for prison staff on LGBTQ+ issues have been recommended to create a more inclusive and safe environment.
  • Efforts are being made to establish grievance mechanisms where queer inmates can report any discrimination or harassment they may face.
