What measures have been taken by the Indian Railways to ensure safety on trains

With a recent counselling initiative launched by Indian Railways for train managers, determine the additional measures taken by Railways Board to ensure passenger safety.
Indian Railways has taken several measures to ensure the safety and security of passengers on trains. Here are some of the measures taken:
  • Installation of CCTV cameras in more than 7000 coaches to monitor activities and prevent theft or harassment.
  • Deployment of more than 2200 women constables and 1800 women officers to ensure safety of female passengers.
  • Implementation of train protection and warning system (TPWS) to prevent accidents caused by train collisions or derailments.
  • Introduction of ‘panic button’ in train coaches for passengers to alert authorities in case of emergencies.
  • Institution of ‘train captains’ to supervise on-board activities and ensure passenger safety.
  • Formation of a Railway Security Force (RSF) comprising of 84000 personnel to patrol trains and railway premises.
In addition to the above measures, the recent counselling initiative launched by Indian Railways for train managers aims to improve their communication and interpersonal skills to better manage passengers and address their concerns. Such initiatives highlight the commitment of the Railways Board towards ensuring the safety and security of passengers on trains.
