Leptospirosis is a bacterial infection caused by Leptospira interrogans bacteria and is commonly found during the monsoon season in India. The spread of this disease can be prevented by taking certain measures such as:

• Cleaning and maintaining hygiene in the surroundings to prevent rats from coming inside the house.
• Avoiding walking barefoot in stagnant water, as this is a major breeding ground for the bacteria.
• Using protective clothing while working in ponds or streams.
• Drinking boiled or purified water to avoid ingestion of contaminated water.
• Keeping food items covered to avoid the contamination by rats.
• Taking precautions such as the use of gloves, boots and goggles while working in areas where rodent infestation is high such as farms or warehouses.

Apart from these measures, it is equally important to have proper medical facilities available to diagnose and treat Leptospirosis, as early detection and treatment can prevent the condition from becoming severe.
