What are the health rules for smoking in OTT platforms as per the Health Ministry

Clarifying the stance of the Health Ministry regarding smoking portrayal in OTT platforms
As per the Health Ministry's stance on smoking portrayal in OTT platforms, the following health rules are applicable:
  • Any portrayal of smoking should be accompanied by prominent health warnings.
  • Characters should not be shown smoking in a manner that promotes or glamorizes the act.
  • Visuals and dialogues that may directly or indirectly encourage smoking or depict it in a positive light should be avoided.
  • Characters below the age of 18 should not be shown smoking.
  • Smoking scenes should not be excessively portrayed in a single scene or in multiple scenes of a particular series.
  • Online platforms should have a disclaimer about the harmful effects of smoking before the start of any content that shows smoking.
  • Efforts should be made to raise awareness about the hazards of smoking and promote anti-smoking campaigns during and after relevant content.
These guidelines aim to discourage the promotion and glamorization of smoking on OTT platforms and promote public health awareness regarding the dangers of smoking.
