How can India overcome the vulnerability to climate change due to high population growth

Explain the measures that could be taken to overcome the uncontrolled population growth in India and tackle the vulnerability to climate change as suggested by UNEP's Executive Director Erik Solheim.
India faces a double challenge of high population growth and vulnerability to climate change. The following measures can be taken to overcome uncontrolled population growth and tackle this issue:
  • Education: Educating people about the benefits of family planning can help in reducing population growth and mitigating climate change impacts. Sufficient information should be made available regarding family planning methods and their proper usage.
  • Access to contraceptives: Access to affordable contraceptives is necessary for controlling the country's population growth rate, which can limit emissions.
  • Female empowerment: Women may need more control over their own lives and greater access to education and healthcare to have fewer children and make autonomous decisions regarding their reproductive health.
  • Promoting Renewable Energy: Encouraging and promoting investments in renewable energy would decrease carbon emissions and promote clean energy generation.
  • Green Transportation: Encourage the use of non-motorized and low-emission transport systems such as walking, cycling, or public transportation to reduce greenhouse gas emissions caused by transportation.
  • Conservation Agriculture: Farmers should take up Conservation agriculture practices such as agroforestry, crop rotations, cover crops, intercropping, and alley cropping, it help to maintain soil health, which provides food sovereignty and adapts to climate change.
By implementing these measures, India could control population growth and reduce susceptibility to climate change impacts.
