Why did the Chairman of ISRO withdraw the publication of his Malayalam memoir

Somanath, Chairman of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), said that he was withdrawing the publication of his Malayalam memoir.
The Chairman of ISRO, Somanath, withdrew the publication of his Malayalam memoir for the following reasons:
  • Conflict of Interest: Somanath mentioned in his memoir that he had faced pressure from government officials during certain crucial space missions. However, as the Chairman of ISRO, he felt it was inappropriate to publicly disclose such sensitive information, as it could lead to misunderstandings or controversies.
  • Maintaining Professional Reputation: Somanath wanted to uphold the integrity and professionalism of ISRO. By withdrawing his memoir, he aimed to prevent any potential damage to the organization's reputation and maintain public trust.
  • Consent and Confidentiality: Somanath had not sought prior consent from relevant authorities, including the government, before publishing his memoir. Moreover, the memoir contained content that was deemed confidential, violating guidelines regarding the sharing of sensitive information.
These considerations prompted Somanath to withdraw the publication of his Malayalam memoir.
