What steps will the government take to improve connectivity with neighboring countries

BIMSTEC summit focuses on connectivity, to adopt Bangkok vision 2030 at next summit.
The BIMSTEC summit held in August 2018 laid emphasis on improving connectivity with neighboring countries. To achieve this goal, the government plans on taking several steps. These steps are mentioned below:
  • Expansion of the transport network: The government plans to expand the transport network to improve connectivity. This includes the development of road, rail and maritime transport infrastructure.
  • Promotion of digital connectivity: The government plans to promote digital connectivity by developing high-speed internet and other digital infrastructure projects. This will help to bridge the digital divide and promote digital inclusiveness among member countries.
  • Establishment of trade corridors: The government plans to establish trade corridors with neighboring countries to facilitate trade and investment. Both parties will benefit as it will lead to an increase in economic activities.
  • Investment in energy infrastructure: The government plans to invest in energy infrastructure to ensure uninterrupted energy supply. This will help in the efficient functioning of economic activities and will continue to attract foreign investors.
  • Encouragement of people-to-people connectivity: The government plans to encourage people-to-people connectivity through cultural exchanges, educational exchanges, and tourism. This will bring the people of different countries closer and promote mutual understanding and respect.
The Bangkok vision 2030 is a 20-year strategic plan adopted by the BIMSTEC countries to promote overall connectivity, trade, investment, and development in the region. These steps will help to implement this vision and foster closer collaboration among the member countries.
