What steps have been taken to address the malaria outbreak in Tripura, India

Gain knowledge about the measures undertaken to curb the spread of malaria in Tripura.
Several measures have been undertaken to address the malaria outbreak in Tripura, India. Some of these steps and interventions include:
  • Mass distribution of Long-Lasting Insecticide Nets (LLINs) to prevent mosquito bites at night, which are causing malaria transmission.
  • Indoor Residual Spraying (IRS) is carried out in endemic areas to kill mosquitoes. This approach has resulted in a considerable decline in malaria transmission.
  • Fogging and Larvicide application to kill adult mosquitoes and destroy their breeding grounds have been intensified
  • Diagnostic services are provided free of charge to infected patients. Those infected are given treatment consisting of antimalarial drugs such as chloroquine, primaquine, or artemisinin-based combination therapy.
  • Campaigns are organised to educate the general public about the symptoms of the disease, its transmission, and the need to seek immediate medical support if symptoms are presented.
Through these interventions, the rate of malaria infection has declined significantly across Tripura in recent years. The efforts continue to be intensified with the goal of eradicating malaria in the state.
