What measures can be taken to curb violence against Scheduled Caste people in West Bengal
NCSC will issue notice to State Election Commissioner over violence against SC people in Bengal, says panel Vice-Chairperson.
- Strong legal action must be taken against those who commit violence against Scheduled Caste people. There should be no impunity for such crimes.
- The police need to ensure that they are proactive in taking action against perpetrators of violence. They must also be sensitive to the needs of the affected communities and ensure that they feel safe and protected.
- The government can set up a special task force to monitor instances of violence against Scheduled Caste people. This task force should also work in close coordination with civil society organizations, community leaders, and the police to ensure effective action is taken.
- The government can also work to raise awareness in the general public about the importance of respecting the rights of all citizens, regardless of their caste or religion. This awareness-raising effort could be done through public campaigns, school education, and other methods of social media.
- Lastly, the government can work with community leaders and civil society organizations to provide the Scheduled Caste community with alternatives to violence, such as legal interventions or community-based dispute resolution mechanisms.
