The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) in India was established in 2005 with the aim of preparing for and responding to natural disasters across the country. Some of the functions carried out by NDMA include:

• Creation and dissemination of information regarding disaster prevention, mitigation, and response.
• Conducting research and development activities for better disaster management and preparedness.
• Capacity building and training of various stakeholders, including government officials and citizens, in disaster response.

Recently, NDMA has responded efficiently in dealing with various natural disasters such as floods, cyclones, and earthquakes. For instance, during the 2018 Kerala floods, NDMA coordinated with various agencies and provided active support in the deployment of rescue and relief measures, resulting in a significant reduction in the loss of life and property. Similarly, during the 2020 cyclone Amphan, NDMA provided timely warnings and pre-positioned resources for quick response, contributing to minimal damage and loss of life. Overall, the NDMA plays a crucial role in ensuring effective disaster management and response in India.
