To improve entomological surveillance and combat the Zika virus outbreak, the following measures can be implemented:
  • Establishing a comprehensive mosquito monitoring system, which includes regular monitoring of mosquito populations, breeding sites, and species distribution.
  • Implementing robust mosquito surveillance strategies, such as trapping and testing mosquitoes for the Zika virus.
  • Enhancing collaboration between public health agencies, researchers, and vector control programs to share data, resources, and expertise.
  • Adopting advanced diagnostic techniques, such as polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and serological tests, to detect and identify the Zika virus in mosquitoes.
  • Implementing a timely reporting system to quickly identify and respond to any increase in mosquito populations or presence of Zika virus in mosquitoes.
  • Increasing public awareness and engagement through educational campaigns about mosquito control measures, Zika virus transmission, and prevention strategies.
