What are the recommendations made by Trai to DoT for the next spectrum auction

Trai has asked DoT to consider previous recommendations for the next spectrum auction.
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has provided several recommendations to the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) for the next spectrum auction. Some of the key recommendations include:
  • Consideration of the previous recommendations made by TRAI to ensure a transparent and efficient auction process.
  • Review and revision of reserve prices for various spectrum bands to enable wider participation and to promote competition.
  • Allocation of adequate spectrum in the 700 MHz band, which has superior propagation characteristics and provides better indoor coverage.
  • Ensuring that spectrum in the 3300-3600 MHz band is made available for the deployment of 5G networks.
  • Introduction of spectrum deployment obligations, requiring winning bidders to deploy services in a timely manner to avoid hoarding or underutilization of spectrum.
  • Enhancing the availability and affordability of spectrum through measures such as longer license durations and facilitating sharing and trading of spectrum.
These recommendations aim to promote fair competition, improve network coverage and quality, and facilitate the growth of the telecommunications sector in India.
