What are the criteria and statistics behind the NEET-UG medical entrance exam results

How are the entrance exam results evaluated and how many students have passed?
The NEET-UG medical entrance exam is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for admissions to undergraduate medical courses in India. The following are the criteria and statistics behind the NEET-UG medical entrance exam results:
  • The exam is evaluated based on the number of correct answers provided by the candidates.
  • Each correct answer receives four marks, whereas one mark is deducted for each incorrect answer.
  • The total marks for the exam are 720, with 180 questions carrying four marks each.
  • There is no deduction of marks for unattempted questions.
  • The minimum qualifying marks for the exam are 50th percentile for unreserved category candidates, 40th percentile for SC/ST/OBC candidates, and 45th percentile for PwD candidates.
  • In 2020, a total of 13,66,945 students appeared for the NEET-UG exam, out of which 7,71,500 students have passed, making the pass percentage 56.44%.
Overall, the NEET-UG medical entrance exam results are evaluated based on a strict marking system and qualification criteria, with a considerable number of students passing the exam each year.
