The Centre has directed states to tackle heatwave-related health issues, especially during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The following are some of the measures recommended by the Centre to states:
  • Urging states to issue early warning systems to people to prevent exposure to heat stroke.
  • Asking states to ensure adequate availability of drinking water, shelter, and food for those who do not have access to these basic necessities
  • Requesting state governments to take necessary steps to ensure that hospitals and medical facilities are well equipped to tackle any heatwave-related health emergencies
  • Mandating states to set up Heat Action Plans in accordance with guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare
  • The centre has also recommended states to share data about heatwave-related hospitalizations and deaths regularly, so that A coordinated response could be formulated to tackle heatwave-related health issues better.
By implementing these measures, State Governments can ensure that appropriate steps are taken to prevent and mitigate heatwave-related health issues and improve public health and well-being.
