Inspired by Rajula Srivastava’s comparison of doing maths to writing poetry, I want to understand how creative thinking and intuition can play a role in mathematical problem-solving, especially for students and researchers.
Creativity and intuition are essential aspects of mathematical problem-solving, much like they are in artistic pursuits such as poetry. While mathematics is often seen as logical and rule-bound, many breakthroughs and elegant solutions arise from thinking beyond standard procedures. For students and researchers, harnessing creativity and intuition can make mathematics more engaging and lead to deeper understanding.
- Finding Multiple Approaches: Creativity allows individuals to explore various methods to solve a problem, rather than sticking to a single formulaic approach. This flexibility can lead to discovering more efficient or elegant solutions.
